ŚrīmadBhāgavatam Canto 01 stands as the beginning that connects the inward inquiry of the living being with the flowing devotional current of bhakti. The questions raised by the sages at Naimiśāraṇya are not merely a search for knowledge; they arise as the heartfelt cry of those seeking eternal peace amidst the instability of Kali Yuga.

Throughout this canto, a deep sense of transition gradually unfolds. As the silence that followed the completion of ŚrīKṛṣṇa’s manifest avatāra līlā, the decline of dharma, and the influence of Kali Yuga begin to appear within the world, the living being slowly turns inward in search of divine shelter.

The life of Mahārāja Parīkṣit stands at the centre of this devotional flow. The detachment, sincerity, and longing to hear the supreme truth that awaken within him as death approaches make the bhakti current of ŚrīmadBhāgavatam increasingly vivid and experiential.

With the arrival of ŚrīŚuka Mahārṣi, this canto assumes a more sacred atmosphere of devotional hearing. Here, the teachings do not remain merely philosophical explanations; they gradually become a spiritual current that turns the heart toward ŚrīmanNārāyaṇa.
