ŚrīmadBhāgavatam
Parāyaṇam | Canto 01
Inquiry at Naimiśāraṇya and the foundation of bhakti
(ŚrīmadBhāgavatam experienced as a flowing stream of listening, recitation, and devotion)
The First Canto of ŚrīmadBhāgavatam stands as the beginning of a spiritual current that purifies the heart through śravaṇa bhakti. The questions raised by the sages at Naimiśāraṇya are not merely an intellectual search for knowledge; within them is also the yearning to understand the path by which the living being may be protected through the divine name, sacred listening, and satsanga.
This canto describes the influence of Kali Yuga, the decline of dharma, and the condition of the world after the completion of ŚrīKṛṣṇa’s manifest avatāra līlā. Within this setting, the flow reveals how listening to ŚrīmadBhāgavatam emerges as a spiritual support for the living being.
The dialogue that begins between Mahārāja Parīkṣit and ŚrīŚuka Mahārṣi is not merely a discourse of instruction; it manifests as a divine lineage through which purity of consciousness arises by listening. Here, the ślokas are not merely read; they are heard, recited, and allowed to settle within the heart.
Therefore, this Parāyaṇam flow is not merely a method of reading. It stands as a spiritual practice of listening with reverence, reciting with devotion, and keeping the mind established in the remembrance of ŚrīmanNārāyaṇa.
How to use this Parāyaṇam
One may continue gradually from Chapter 01 onward through listening or recitation. Each chapter helps the listener experience the flow of śravaṇa bhakti more deeply.
In every chapter, śloka text and audio support are provided. The reader may directly listen to any desired śloka or follow the complete chapter Parāyaṇam from beginning to end.
By using this Parāyaṇam during peaceful moments as a daily practice of recitation or listening, the flow of the ślokas gradually becomes naturally established within the heart.
This Parāyaṇam method
This method presents each chapter in a manner suited for the experience of listening and recitation. Each chapter page is structured in the following sequence:
Ślokapāṭham: Śloka presentation suited for Parāyaṇam.
Śravaṇam: Audio support to hear each śloka with proper pronunciation.
Flow recitation: To experience the complete chapter as an uninterrupted stream of listening.
In this way, listening, recitation, and remembrance take place in harmony.
